.mrw
An .mrw file is a Konica Minolta RAW photo from the DiMAGE 5, 7, A1, A2 and A200 or the Dynax/Maxxum 5D and 7D, cameras sold from 2001 to 2006.

JPG: opens everywhere
Windows Photos does not open it and Minolta's own software is gone. Free RAW editors still read it; Contenta Converter converts a whole archive of .mrw files to JPG, TIFF or PNG in one batch, so the photos open anywhere.

| Descriere | MRW is the RAW photo format of Konica Minolta's digital cameras from 2001 to 2006: the DiMAGE 5, 7, 7i, 7Hi, A1, A2 and A200 bridge cameras and the Dynax/Maxxum 5D and 7D DSLRs. It stores the unprocessed sensor data with the camera settings. When Sony took over the camera line in 2006, the format was replaced by ARW. |
| Beneficii | Unprocessed 12-bit sensor data: white balance, exposure and colour can still be chosen when converting. Small files by today's standards. |
| Dezavantaje | An orphaned format: Konica Minolta left the camera business in 2006 and its DiMAGE software is no longer maintained. Current editors still read MRW through LibRaw or Adobe Camera Raw, but that will not last forever, which is a reason to convert archives to TIFF or JPG now. |

Konica Minolta's DiMAGE 5, 7, 7i, 7Hi, A1, A2 and A200 bridge cameras and the Dynax 5D and 7D (Maxxum in North America) DSLRs, sold from 2001 to 2006. The Sony Alpha cameras that followed write ARW instead.
Install the free Raw Image Extension from the Microsoft Store for Windows Photos, or use RawTherapee or darktable, both free. To make the photos open everywhere, convert them to JPG or TIFF with Contenta Converter.
It is a sensible precaution. Convert the archive to 16-bit TIFF for a lossless master and to JPG for everyday use, and keep the .mrw files as well. Contenta Converter does each in one batch and keeps the shooting dates.
