PTX file: what it is and how to open it
Two unrelated programs use .ptx. From a camera card, it is a Pentax RAW photo from an older Pentax camera. From a music or video project, it is an Avid Pro Tools session, which only Pro Tools opens. How to open a .PTX file on Windows
- Check where it came from. Copied from a camera memory card or a photo folder: Pentax RAW photo. Next to folders named Audio Files or Session File Backups: Pro Tools session.
- Pentax photo, free. The Pentax software that came with the camera views and exports PTX photos, one at a time.
- Pentax photos in batch. Contenta Converter converts a whole folder of .ptx photos to JPG, TIFF or PNG in one pass.
- Pro Tools session. Open it in Avid Pro Tools; Pro Tools Intro is free. A session holds the edit, not an image, so no photo converter can open it.

Is a PTX file a photo or a Pro Tools session?
It depends on where it came from. Camera cards and photo folders hold Pentax RAW photos; audio project folders hold Pro Tools sessions. Contenta Converter only opens the Pentax photos.
