Minolta Photos — Convert, Resize & Organize

Information about the format: MRW

Format MRW
Company Konica Minolta
Description MRW is the RAW photo format of Konica Minolta's digital cameras from 2001 to 2006: the DiMAGE 5, 7, 7i, 7Hi, A1, A2 and A200 bridge cameras and the Dynax/Maxxum 5D and 7D DSLRs. It stores the unprocessed sensor data with the camera settings. When Sony took over the camera line in 2006, the format was replaced by ARW.
Benefits Unprocessed 12-bit sensor data: white balance, exposure and colour can still be chosen when converting. Small files by today's standards.
Drawbacks An orphaned format: Konica Minolta left the camera business in 2006 and its DiMAGE software is no longer maintained. Current editors still read MRW through LibRaw or Adobe Camera Raw, but that will not last forever, which is a reason to convert archives to TIFF or JPG now.
