Why are my iPhone photos in HEIC format?
Starting with iOS 11, Apple set HEIC as the default photo format because it produces files roughly 50% smaller than JPEG at the same quality. You can change this in Settings > Camera > Formats, choosing Most Compatible for JPEG instead.
