JPG · 3900×2613 · 1.69 MB. Contenta decodes the sensor data and writes a new JPG. The camera and exposure tags come along (Nikon D60, ISO 400, 1/125 s, f/2.8, 86 mm).
One Nikon D60 NEF, read with ExifTool. Each block is drawn to its real byte size. Other cameras lay files out differently; this is one real file, not an average.

From a camera card, it is a Pentax RAW photo from an older Pentax camera. From a music or video project, it is an Avid Pro Tools session, which only Pro Tools opens. Contenta Converter converts Pentax PTX photos to JPG, TIFF or PNG in batch; it does not open Pro Tools sessions.

How to open a .PTX file on Windows

  1. Check where it came from. Copied from a camera memory card or a photo folder: Pentax RAW photo. Next to folders named Audio Files or Session File Backups: Pro Tools session.
  2. Pentax photo, free. The Pentax software that came with the camera views and exports PTX photos, one at a time.
  3. Pentax photos in batch. Contenta Converter converts a whole folder of .ptx photos to JPG, TIFF or PNG in one pass.
  4. Pro Tools session. Open it in Avid Pro Tools; Pro Tools Intro is free. A session holds the edit, not an image, so no photo converter can open it.

Is a PTX file a photo or a Pro Tools session?

It depends on where it came from. Camera cards and photo folders hold Pentax RAW photos; audio project folders hold Pro Tools sessions. Contenta Converter only opens the Pentax photos.

How do I convert a Pentax PTX photo to JPG?
